Obscene Vista-iality

Yeah, yeah, I know it’s not that funny, but it’s the only title I could come up with other than “A Bunch of Stuff About Windows Vista.” The new Microsoft operating system is big news lately, what with everyone scrambling to support it, ban it, figure out what doesn’t suck about it, etc. Some Vista-related news items:

Need a good reason NOT to use Vista? Slashdot reports that all Microsoft updates phone home. Overlord Gates is always watching…

For all the musicians out there, CDM has a nice article about Vista compatibility with music-related hardware and software, although personally, I think moving to Vista is a ridiculous idea at this point for any serious musician or audio freak. The only argument for this that could hold any water would be the fact that you could use Vista to mix audio at 64 bits…

Following in my boss’s footsteps, the U.S. Department of Transportation has banned its employees from using the latest generation of Microsoft products. In our case, my boss found out the hard way that on his computer, IE7 does not play well with Outlook or with the time slip tracking application that we use. I’m sure that in the case of the DOT, it went down in a slightly different way, but the sentiment is the same (Vista and IE7 both suck!). Even more interesting, the FAA is apparently considering switching to Linux and Google online business applications instead of upgrading to Vista and the new version of Office. Looks like Google might be the next Microsoft after all…

Now, you can even make your iPod run Linux! Okay, that one wasn’t Vista-related but I had to put it in there.

And last but not least, a funny video! Enjoy…

P.S. (1.5 days later): Tom’s Hardware has a great Vista video on their site. It is by Ben Meyer and it is called My Vista Upgrade: A Short Comedy. Click on the “Videos” section to find it…
